With Black History woefully underrepresented and outright banned in U.S. History courses around the nation, we must ensure we know and teach this history so we can fight for it to be a central part of what every American understands about this country and its founding.

Join me March 15-16 at Who We Are: Memphis, The Who We Are Project’s dynamic two-day event that brings together thinkers, activists, political leaders, and the greater Memphis community to exchange ideas, build alliances, and strategize the next steps for the fight ahead to protect accurate history, diverse books, and equal education.

What is Who We Are: Memphis?

Who We Are: Memphis is a dynamic two-day event that brings together thinkers, activists, political leaders, and the greater Memphis community to exchange ideas, build alliances, and strategize the next steps for the fight ahead to protect accurate history, diverse books, and equal education.

Day 1 features a screening of Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America, our feature-length documentary, followed by a fireside chat with me alongside Michelle Phillips, Executive Director, Facing History & Ourselves Southeast, and Tennessee State Representative Justin Pearson.

Day 2 is an immersive day of panels and performances discussing the intersection of advocacy, history, and education with anti-Blackness and racism. Panelists include Dr. Coby Smith, founder of the Invaders; Michelle Duster, author, and grand-daughter of Ida B. Wells; Tennessee Senator Charlane Oliver; Toluse Olarunnipa and Robert Samuels, authors of “His Name Was George Floyd”; Rev. Cornell William Brooks, Director of Harvard University's William Monroe Trotter Collaborative for Social Justice, and many more esteemed artists, activists, and writers.

We hope that Who We Are: Memphis is a part of what will become regional discussions on anti-Blackness, racism, and their impact on communities all across the United States.
